My Free Water Report / Cost Calculator

What water treatment actually costs

Three questions, about sixty seconds, and a real number at the end. Water treatment is one of the last home services where nobody will tell you a price until a salesperson is standing in your kitchen. Here is ours, in public, before you talk to anyone.

60-second estimate No phone call No pressure Northern Virginia pricing
Question 1 of 3

Where does your water come from?

Most of Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William is on city water from Fairfax Water or Loudoun Water. If you have a well, the answer changes and so does the price.

Question 2 of 3

How many bathrooms?

This sets the size of the whole-home tank, which is the main thing that moves the install either way.

Question 3 of 3

What actually bothers you? Pick everything that applies.

Pick at least one to see your price.

All three systems, all three prices

You do not have to use the calculator. Here is the whole price list.

Kitchen tap. The water you drink and cook with. $1,950
$3,950
Whole-Home Softener + Carbon
Where water enters the house
Every tap, shower, bath and the laundry. $2,800
$5,200
Combined System
Both, bundled
Whole house, plus a drinking stage at the kitchen. $4,990
$9,150

The honest caveat about the whole-home unit

Softener resin and carbon do a great job on hardness, scale, chlorine and disinfection byproducts. They do not remove PFAS, nitrate or chromium-6. That is the under-sink Reverse Osmosis job. So if what worries you is what your family drinks, the whole-home unit on its own is not the answer, and anyone selling it to you as one is overselling. That is exactly why the two pair into the Combined system.

What these prices do and do not include

  • Included: the equipment, the install labor, the fittings, and the bypass so the system can be serviced without shutting your water off.
  • Not included on well water: a well needs its own test first. Depending on what comes back, a well system can need UV for bacteria, an acid neutralizer for low pH, or iron treatment. Those are real added cost and we will not pretend otherwise by quoting you a city-water number.
  • Sizing: larger homes get the larger tank. It is a modest difference and it is confirmed on site, not guessed from a web form.
  • The visit is free. The onsite check confirms the final price before anything is ordered. If the number moves, you hear it before you commit, not after.

Read your water data before you buy anything

My Free Water Report publishes the contaminant data for 58 water systems across Virginia, DC and Maryland. Enter your ZIP and you will see what is actually detected in the water at your address, which tells you which of the three systems above you actually need. Do that first. It works just as well as a defense against us as it does against anyone else.
